About the region: Ain Sokhna ("the Hot Spring") is Egypt's closest Red Sea escape, on the western shore of the Gulf of Suez, about 90 minutes from Cairo. It sits between the calm sea and the rocky Galala and Ataqa mountains, so you can swim and snorkel by day, then hike, ride the Galala cable car or take a desert safari. Nearby you will find natural hot sulfur springs, a championship golf club, a family fun park, and the ancient monasteries of St. Anthony and St. Paul for day trips. A new high-speed electric railway is planned to end at Ain Sokhna.
